While there’s no foolproof
plan to follow to rid yourself of acne, nutrition does play an important role
in our skin condition and many foods and vitamins have been shown to improve
and prevent acne. Follow our recommendations for what your acne free diet should
include.
Quinoa
Quinoa (pronounced keen-wa)
strengthens the skins defences, is rich in antioxidants and contains vitamins
that fight the discolouration caused by acne scarring.
Salmon
Salmon is one of the best
sources of Omega 3 and protein. Omega 3 is essential in fighting acne, and a
high protein, low carb diet has been proven to aid the elimination of acne.
Sweet potato

Sweet potatoes are a
fantastic source of Vitamin A, also known as retinol, another essential
acne-busting vitamin.
Water
If it seems like you’re
being told to drink more water to help with absolutely everything, there’s a
reason for that. Drinking a recommended eight glasses of water per day flushes
toxins out of the body and has an amazing effect on the skin.
Sunflower Seeds
Sunflower seeds make an
excellent snack and can easily be added to a meal. They are high in Vitamin E,
which can reduce the appearance of acne scars and blemishes.
Zinc
Zinc is well known for its
acne fighting abilities and can be found in spinach, roast beef, eggs, pumpkin
seeds, mushrooms and crab.
Carrots
Carrots contain an
astounding array of nutrients that are beneficial to skin health, including
Vitamin A, potassium, biotin, thiamine and Vitamins K, C and B6.
Garlic
Easily added to dishes for a
kick of flavour, garlic is a wonderful source of natural antibiotics that fight
off bacterial infections.
While undertaking your acne
free diet, it is advisable to avoid foods that are high in saturated fat, as
well as any processed ‘junk’ food.
